Why Help An African University?

With so much immediate suffering in the world, it may seem illogical to support an institution of higher education. Undoubtedly, giving time and resource to those who are sick, homeless or fleeing terror is a vital activity. However, supporting UCU has the following impacts:

  • Students are greatly encouraged by sponsorships, both practically and emotionally.
  • Improving higher education has an enormous knock-on effect. For example, a teacher trained well will benefit thousands of pupils; we know that there is a great need for high quality teacher training in Uganda.
  • Universities offer great intellectual provision to society, influencing government, politics and national strategy in significant ways. There is thus a trickle down effect to the man on the street. For example, well trained lawyers will influence better legal precedents which benefit many.
